How to upload a lead list to Pardot

Accessing Pardot Settings

To upload a lead list into Pardot first select Pardot Settings from the top menu.

Navigating to the Imports Tab

From the side menu click on the Imports tab.

Choosing Import Options and Uploading CSV File

You have two options now:

Option #1: Create or update your prospects using the Salesforce Lead or Contact ID

Option #2: Create or update your prospects using their email address

Choose the options that are most suitable for you depending on the type of data that you have.

When you have checked the appropriate box, you need to upload the .csv file with your list of leads. You can either drop and drag or click on the blue + Upload file to move it into Pardot from your computer.

Confirming Data Compliance

Once you have uploaded the file you will need to check the compliance box to confirm that the prospect data you have collected is in line with Salesforce’s policy. Finally click on the next button to move to the next step.

Matching CSV Columns to Prospect Fields

Now you need to match the columns in your .csv file with the prospect fields. If the prospect already exists in Pardot you can choose whether the data from your .csv file should overwrite it or not. When you have selected the relevant fields click on the next button.

Assigning Campaigns and Tags

Now choose the campaign that you want the prospects to be connected to. If the prospect is already connected to a campaign, you can choose either to connect them to this campaign or keep them connected to their existing campaign. Add any tags you want for this group of prospects. Then click on the next button to move to the following step.

Selecting Actions for Imported Leads

You can now choose an action that should occur for the leads that you are adding to Pardot. These options include:

  • Adding the prospects to a list(s)
  • Removing the prospects from a list(s)
  • Automatically opting out these prospects from your communications
  • Import your prospects but don’t add them to a list

Finally click on the green Confirm & Save button to add your prospects to Pardot.
