Pardot form handlers are a powerful tool that allow you to collect data from your website forms and use it to automatically update prospect records in Pardot. For example, if you have a form on your website that asks for a prospect’s name and email address, you can use a form handler to automatically create a new prospect record in Pardot with that information. This eliminates the need to manually enter the data into Pardot, saving you time and effort.
Pardot form handlers offer a few advantages compared to Pardot forms. One of the main advantages of a form handler, is that you can create your own forms on your website, and use Pardot to track submissions and add the prospect to a specific list or campaign. This means that you have complete control over the design and layout of your forms, and can customize them to match the look and feel of your website.
A Pardot custom field is a type of field that you can create in Pardot to store additional information about your prospects. These fields can be used in conjunction with form handlers to collect and store information from your website forms. For example, you could create a custom field in Pardot to store a prospect’s job title, and then use a form handler to automatically update that field with the information collected from a form on your website.
Creating a checkbox using Pardot custom fields is very simple. In Pardot, you can create a custom field of type “checkbox.” Then, you can add this field to your form on your website, and when a prospect submits the form, the checkbox will be automatically checked and the value will be stored in the Pardot custom field. This can be very useful for tracking certain actions or preferences of your prospects.
Creating a custom prospect field
To begin you will need to create a custom prospect field for your checkbox. Start by clicking on Pardot Settings and then from the menu choose Prospect Fields.
Once you have selected Prospect Fields click on the blue + Add Custom Field button.
Now you need to create your custom field. Name your custom field as you prefer, in the example below we have used “Checkbox”. Under Type select Checkbox from the drop down menu. Keep “Use predefined values (for checkboxes, radio buttons, drops downs and multi-selects)” checked.
Finally in the Values section, choose prefill with “Yes” or whatever you want to indicate on the prospects record that they have agreed by checking the box.
Creating the Pardot form handler
Now that you have a checkbox created as a custom record, you can create your Pardot form handler. Start by selecting From Handler from the menu.
Next click on the blue + Add Form Handler button.
From the + Form Fields section click on the blue + Add New Field button.
Once you have added the new field select the custom Prospect Field that you created in the previous steps from the drop down menu. For the Type choose Checkbox and the Data Format choose Text. If you want to ensure that prospects have consented to the disclaimer text that you have entered, check the Required field.
The final step in this process is to edit the Values. This is where you will enter the disclaimer text for your Pardot form handlers checkbox. In the first field enter “Yes” and then in the field after A add in your preferred disclaimer text.
